dismember the '90s?
(40 minutes, 2019)
This was my attempt at finally completing the '90s anti-nostalgia concept I started with King of the Ooze. Every song has some connection to personal memories or associations I have with that decade, some of them extremely tenuous. But to quote Trotsky 2-Dope, all this shit's relevant as far as you know.
Getting an early exposure to my sleazy uncle's porn collection (stiff-paged Penthouse magazines full of hairy pussy and VHS tapes with titles like Beetle Juice) had a major influence on the lyrics for this album. There are porno parodies of action-figure gimmicks, cigarette marketing, and public television children's shows.
There's a porno parody of porno parodies.
In the second half of the album, there are songs about fun household substitutes for psychiatric meds, the beat-em-up games of the 16-bit era, and playground equipment that was seemingly designed to cause death or injury. Audio samples from movies, videogames, and commercials are mixed throughout for an effect like channel-surfing TV in hell.
Holding it all together is the dismember the '90s? theme, a three-part musical piece that's part generic SLIMECOP song, part spoken-word story, and part chaotic sound-collage. Think of it as the bread on a triple-decker shit sandwich.
NOW EAT IT.
