More Mucus Than Man
(21 minutes, 2018)
I was trying to ape the sound and aesthetic of late '80s industrial music with this one, and I think I was partly successful. There's lots of abrasive synths and trashcan snares, at least in Mouth Cancer and My Mother, The Car Crash.
That last one is a mash-up of bizarre '60s sitcom My Mother the Car, about a man who discovers that his dead mother's ghost is haunting a used car, and J.G. Ballard's perverse postmodern novel Crash, about a subculture of car-accident fetishists who get sexually aroused by highway disasters. Two bad tastes that taste bad together.
An accidentally recurring theme in this EP was mouths--a person addicted to eating chapstick, facial tumors caused the by Human Papillomavirus, and the "nightmare pussytongue" of a hagfish feasting on a fat man's asshole. This theme influenced the artwork, which is supposed to look like a D.I.Y., cut-and-pasted and color-filtered album cover from a band like My Life with the Thrill-Kill Kult or early Nine Inch Nails.
