King of the Ooze

(22 minutes, 2016)

This album started with a handful of leftover song titles and lyrical scraps going back to 2006, some of them scribbled on receipts in the McDonald's drivethrough window or on my algebra notes. Back then I had some cool friends with bands who were nice enough to let me contribute, and I learned songwriting basically out of the desire to impress them. Any song ideas they didn't use were just discarded since I didn't have the musical ability to finish anything myself. After a few wasted post-college years failing my way through my mid-late twenties, I came back to this unused material as a way to reconnect with those happy days of cocaine and hamburgers.

The production quality on these tracks is pretty crude. I was teaching myself how to use FL Studio and Acid as I went along and I had a very rough understanding of song composition. I also thought that no one besides me and a couple people I wanted to show them to would ever listen to them (was I wrong?).

This album set the aesthetic tone for the SLIMECOP project, right down to the name. A recurring theme in the lyrics was biological fluids oozing, squirting, and spurting all over '90s pop-culture references. I wanted "slime" included in the name for its association with Nickelodian and early '90s gross-out cartoons and I just went down a list of options until I found one that nobody had a Soundcloud project named after.

The album's title is a parody of the "King of the Jews" label the Romans gave Jesus when they crucified him, and just to rub it in, the cover image is a cross made of snot and garbage.
